Any Chicago Oppos? Girlfriend and I are driving there for a weekend. Any suggestions on what a couple of tourists should do while we’re there?
It’s car related because we’re driving?

The museums and aquarium are great. The Bean is at Millennium Park, which is also a nice place to walk around. Eat at nearby Giordanno’s. Walk Michigan Ave if you want to shop some interesting stores, even if you’re not buying anything. If you keep walking, you’ll come to the old Water Tower where there’s a mall nearby and the Hershey and Ghiradelli stores right there. It’s a nice walk.

Weather looks really great for this weekend! I was born in Wisconsin, but have lived in Chicagoland all my life. I have some suggestions:
1. Chicago Art Institute - Unforgettable experience and pretty affordable!
2. Chicago Shedd Aquarium - Awesome if that’s your thing...just be prepared for 2+ hour lines to get in.
3. Museum of Science and Industry - There’s no reason you shouldn’t go here!!! AWESOME!
4. Lou Malnati’s Pizza (or Pizza Uno/Giordano’s for a different take) - Mmmmmmmmmmmm, I love their deep dish!
5. Navy Pier - Because Navy Pier, that’s why.
6. Sears Tower (I refuse to call it Willis) - Has a CRAZY observation glass box up at top. The box hangs off the side of the building...is epic.
7. Six Flags: Great America - An hour from Chicago, many thrills to be had, can meet meeeeeee...ain’t cheap. lol
8. Lower Wacker Drive - Great place to drive if you have a loud car!! :D

Willis Tower is always cool. They have a restaurant/bar up there which has great views and you can be drinking.

Meh to Lou’s.
Go to Pequod’s!

Pequod’s Pizza is the best pizza in the city!
Grab a drink at the Signature Lounge, located at the top of the Hancock. They’re pricey, but the view is fantastic.

Do not eat at Giordanno’s. Worst example of Chicago deep dish. I’ve never had a good experience, and have gone there several times.
Pequod’s is the best, then probably a tie between Lou Malnati’s and Geno’s East.

Another really fun place to check out is Eataly. It’s an indoor Italian market in downtown Chicago, they’ve got a couple restaurants inside, charcuterie bar, wine bar, and tons of interesting food stuffs.

I went to a Mueseum in Chicago and they had a Nazi U-boat on display, I am pretty sure that was the Museum of Science. I was about 8 so I don’t remember exactly what it was called

100% THIS.

The price of the drinks is about the same as the observation deck ticket. I’d rather get a view from a couple floors lower and have a drink in my hand. Plus, it’s where I got engaged!

Navy Pier is a bit meh. Very tourist trap. Much expensive (wow!).
For food, Pequod’s/Gino’s East/Lou Malnati’s are all great for Italian beef. If burgers are what you want, go to Kuma’s or Au Cheval. If you have never tried Italian beef, go to Al’s or Mr. Beef in the city, or hit up a Portillo’s on your way in/out of town.
If you have time, I would look into taking one of the architecture tour boat rides. It’s nice and relaxing, and the architecture is what Chicago’s known for!
If you’re in town this weekend, there’s Supercar Saturday also going on in suburban Bolingbrook.

This. I have some great pictures of martini glasses overlooking Chicago. Loved it

It’s quite breezy...driving was super fun (everyone is in a rush). The UChicago campus is really nice...go along the lakeside for a walk. It’s immensely beautiful and filled with these small parks. Lincoln park has a zoo inside....I hear Chicago pizza is delicious.

I second the museum, it’s fucking bomb.

I know you’re kidding, but it can be incredibly windy coming off the lake and whipping around the buildings in the Loop (downtown).
Park your car and take transit, it’s not scary. A boat tour of downtown is always fun.
Lou Malnati’s is the best deep dish. Giordano’s is an acceptable second, I guess.
Navy Pier is a tourist trap and not worth your time. I lived in Chicago for 5 years and never went.
Museum Campus can take up days of your time. Natural history, an aquarium and a planetarium. It also has some of the best views of the city.
Millennium/Grant/Maggie Daley/Lake Shore East are a complex of parks all next to each other. If you just want to sit in the sun, you’ll find room in one of them.
Chinatown is kinda cool, has a lot of neat architecture and tasty food. If you want to explore other neighborhoods Pilsen, Ukrainian Villiage, Wicker Park, Lakeview and Uptown are good bets.

If you’re staying in a hotel in the city and driving there, book a parking space near your hotel through SpotHero and leave your car there the whole time. Hotels charge crazy amounts for parking and with SpotHero you can usually find a spot in a garage within a couple blocks for much less.

Yes, it is the Museum of Science and Industry

I used to spend a lot of time in Chicago in the late 90s and early 2000s. I can’t say that I ever found (or even looked for) good driving there. In fact, I preferred to take the train from Kalamazoo, where I lived at the time. Parking in Chicago is as bad and expensive as any big city, which can make dealing with a car a little stressful (especially if you’re like me and fret over every little door ding). I can say this: the pizza is good, but the hot dogs are great!

Really? I’ve had excellent experiences there every time, and have been going since like 2001. But everyone has different preferences it seems. I really want to try Uno’s sometime. I tend to recommend Giordanno’s in part because it’s easy to find when on foot and walking Michigan Ave. It’s near Millennium Station too, and I tend to get to Chicago via the South Shore train, so if it’s getting late but not late enough for the train, time to get some pizza.
